How many journals have I watched start up where the poster says they're just going to use it for comments, and then they end up posting extensively? Well, I'm just going to use this for comments... so far. But it does look rather naked with nothing at all on the postings page, so, here I am.

I'm listening to Belshazzar's Feast play a minor-key tune with one concertina hanging on the tonic above the melody, and the other concertina on melody, which switches to the relative major and back. Very effective and haunting. I keep meaning to look up the dance to see if it's as good as its tune.

I'm in that state of paralysis brought on by having too much to do. (Hence, start an LJ! Sure!) But I suddenly today realized that camp is just over three weeks away, not the six I'd been thinking since, oh, two and a half weeks ago, I guess. More perils of too much to do--one's time sense goes all wonky.

A weekend full of ups and downs--logistical ick at the Friday dance (Lambertville) where we played well and had fun in the middle of it; rainrainrain on our parade at alumni weekend; running into surprising old friends; the inevitable schedule conflicts in which one simply can't get to everything; enjoying present people, missing absent people; the whirling disconnect of seeing people in unaccustomed places and knowing they'll be gone again straight away. And dances out of town all work-week, followed by a potentially dance-free weekend. (Oh, well, maybe Princeton Saturday, depending.) I feel most settled these days when I'm in motion on the dance floor. Even if it's with a bunch of people who can't lift their feet enough for a proper Miserlou/Never on Sundays.

Right, off to bed on a good rainy night.
---<@
melissa
